The Abita Springs Trailhead Museum is a quaint, one-room museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history and culture of Abita Springs. It is owned and operated by the Town of Abita Springs and managed by its Board of Directors. At this time, we have no paid employees and admission is free to all.
We are always looking for docents willing to volunteer their time during open hours, which are 10am-4pm Fridays and Saturdays; 11am-3pm on Sundays during the Abita Springs Art & Farmers Market just outside the museum in the Park. If you have a group that would like to come for a visit, please send us an email.
If you would like to be considered for serving on our Board of Directors, please let us know. The public is welcome to attend any Board meeting. They take place on the third Wednesday of each month at 5PM at the museum except in June and July. We sincerely encourage you to attend. Join us!
The museum is not a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization but has a similar tax exempt status because it is owned by a governmental agency, the Town of Abita Springs. Donations and sponsorships of our events and exhibitions are highly encouraged and very much appreciated.
Mission statement: To collect, preserve, store, maintain, catalog, and safeguard objects concerning the heritage, history, economy, and culture of the people and Town of Abita Springs, both physical objects such as tools, clothing, memorabilia, and handiworks and documents such as diaries, analog or digital recordings of interviews and transcripts of interviews, other recordings, photographs, drawings, and paintings. To display the artifacts and documents and to host and display similar material created by other museums or organizations; and to work with other organizations whose purposes and activities connect with those of the Museum.

Gratitude
The Trailhead Museum Board of Directors is grateful to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for a generous donation that has allowed us to have three new display cabinets and a podium constructed for us. It opens the door for more and better presentations for us. Thank you, LEH!
We are also grateful to those businesses that chose to support us through advertising on our park totem. Many thanks to:
Abita Brew Pub, Abita Brewing, Abita Mystery House, Abita Snoball Stand, Abita Springs Cafe, Abita Veterinary Practice, Blitch/Knevel Architects, CLECO, and the Abita Springs Women’s Center for Healing & Transformation.
And we are very grateful to CLECO for a generous contribution in support of the 2022 and 2023 En Plein Air exhibitions. Thank you!
